Book Week 2014
Book Week 2014 is coming to Samakee!
Monday 10th – Friday 14th March 2014
Book Week is an incredibly popular annual event at Samakee in which we celebrate the wonder of books and all we can gain from them – even more than usual!
This year will see the familiar range of competitions, class book making activities and story sharing, as well as a firm favourite, Book Character Day. On Friday 14th March, children and teachers are invited to dress up as their favourite book character (don’t forget to bring the book your character comes from on the day!). The morning will begin at 8:30 with the Costume Parade around the garden followed by a sharing of work assembly in which we will find out about the creative book related activities that have been going on across the school during the week. At the end of the day, prizes will be awarded for the most realistic, the best homemade and the most original costumes in each age range.
We are very excited to announce that this year the children will have the chance to meet and work with a real life author! On Tuesday, Janice Santikarn, the author of The Little Blue Tuk Tuk and many other delightful English language stories set in Thailand, will be visiting our school to spend time talking to the children about writing and publishing books. KS2 children will even take part in Writing Workshops with Janice and spend the day producing their own versions of one of her stories. Throughout the day, Janice will be personally signing and selling copies of her books at the discounted rate of 250B. If your child would like to buy a book, please send money in a named envelope, or alternatively, parents may visit to buy books before and after school. She is also happy to sign previously bought copies of her books. If you are interested to find out more about Janice and her books, you can visit her website at: www.janicesantikarn.com
We look forward to a fun-filled week of enjoying, cherishing and celebrating books. In the words of Dr Seuss, who would have celebrated his 110th birthday just a few days ago… “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
