What do our Inclusion Leaders do?

Our Inclusion Leaders, in collaboration with the headteacher play a key role in determining the strategic development of our Inclusion Policy and provision in our school in order to raise the achievement of children with SEN.

The Inclusion Leaders take day-to-day responsibility for the provision made for individual children with SEN, working closely with staff, parents and carers, and Merak Clinic.

Our Inclusion Leaders also provides related professional guidance to colleagues with the aim of securing high quality teaching for children with SEN.

The key responsibilities of our Inclusion Leaders includes:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy.
  • Liaising with and advising fellow teachers.
  • Managing the SEN team learning support assistants.
  • Co-ordinating provision for children with special educational needs.
  • Overseeing the records on all children with special educational needs.
  • Liaising with parents/carers of children with special educational needs.
  • Contributing to the in-service training of staff.
  • Liaising with Merak Clinic and therapists who work at the school.
  • Liaising with Merak Clinic to manage arrangements related to the Merak Home School Programme

Samakee is an inclusive school. Children with special needs are, as much as possible, educated alongside their mainstream peers because we believe this practice benefits both the child and the school as a whole. However, not all children are suited to going into the mainstream setting and children with more severe levels of disability Parallel Learning takes place within the child’s timetabled lessons.
