Kids Triathlon – ISB Monday 5 May 2014
Triathlon is a fantastic multi-sport event for children to get involved in. It encompasses all the things that children enjoy doing: Swimming, Cycling and Running. The only difference is that there is a start line and a finish line! Unlike adults who do triathlons to get in shape or race, most children take part for fun and that’s what it’s all about. If it remains fun while you are young it will foster a life-long passion for leading a healthy and active life style.
There were various age group competitions at ISB all with slightly different distances ranging from 50m – 350m in the pool, 1km – 9.1km on the Bike and 450m – 3.km run…… Phew!
When we talk about Triathlon, most conversations will be directed to swim, bike or run however, another area of Triathlon which is important is the Transition Phase. This is the time when you have to get out of the water and prepare for the bike (T1) or when you finish your bike and prepare for the Run (T2). For children this can often be the hardest part of the Triathlon….. What to wear? What to leave behind? Remembering to remove the bike helmet and tying shoe laces…!!!!
There were 19 students taking part from Samakee which was an amazing turn out. All our students crossed the finishing line for a well deserved Finishers Medal. Congratulations to all Samakee students you were brilliant! Mind, Mint, Axel, Lucas, Neila, Damion, Arthur, Zaim, Tonwaan, Chloe, Alex, Mats, Taisan, Gweiling, Phunwa, Jayden Kanishka, Asia, Benjamin.
There were some very good split times for the individual disciplines and a special mention goes to Mats, Lucas and Alex for a Relay Team win and to Mind for a podium place. I am already looking forward to the event next year when I hope we will have more Samakee students take on the challenge.
