Samakee is an independent, privately owned, co-educational school that caters to children from age 1+ to 14 years and draws children from multicultural backgrounds. Situated approximately 20 kilometres north of the centre of Bangkok, it is in an area that has developed rapidly in the last 10 years with large department stores, supermarkets and malls flourishing adjacent to interesting temples, local markets, food stalls and shops. Thailand is a fascinating place to live with so many exciting destinations for school trips and weekend visits.
The school itself was opened in the year 2000 and has at present 26 different nationalities; it has grown from just two students to more than 260. Our students, and many of our staff, live in or near a large ex-pat community; the children mix socially after school and most are involved in the diverse after school activities available at school and in the neighbourhood, Eco-Warriors, Scouts, Taekwando, Art Design and Technology, Drawing, Techno Farm, Band, Private Studies, Drama, Thai, French, Cooking, Science and Maths, Ballet, Swimming, Football and Basketball to mention just a few.
The climate allows us to take full advantage of the outdoor environment and the garden, sports fields and basketball courts are a fundamental part of our programme with easy access from each classroom. Teachers make full use of this resource in their daily planning in a variety of ways. The setting and classrooms, both indoors and out, are designed attractively into learning areas, the organisation of these spaces changes and evolves over time, influenced by the children and their interests, the creativity of the staff and topics or projects they may be involved in. The rooms are light and spacious with ample resources to support exploring and learning. All classrooms are equipped with IWBs. We make full use of our specialist areas, which include a large hall, library and media centre, dance and drama studio, science lab, music rooms, art rooms, Thai room, covered sports arena, swimming pool and inclusion centre.
