Deaf Awareness Week

Did you know, across the world, this week is Deaf Awareness Week!

At St Andrews Samakee we are enjoying celebrating this special week in lots of different ways.  Did you notice our silent Move It and flag raising?

At playtimes we are all enjoying shopping at the Deaf Cafe.  If you want to buy a snack for yourself or something to feed the rabbit or tortoise, you have to use sign language to place your order.

On Friday we are preparing for the Zip it lunch.  There will be silence in the dining hall at all sittings as children try to communicate with their friends using anything but their voice!  Will they use body language? Hand signals? Lip reading?  We are interested to see how the children (and staff!) will do.  Good luck everyone, be mindful of those for whom this is a reality, and have lots of fun!
