We promise: Independent, confident, lifelong learners

Headteacher Message 11/4/16

International Day 2016 was truly a vibrant and spectacular event, and our sincere appreciation goes to our many parent volunteers, grandparents, carers, staff and children who made it all possible. From the exhilarating to the inventive, to the more thought provoking, the captivating diversity of presentations, artefacts, room design and activities caught the children’s interest and sparked enjoyment.

The day began with a very colourful parade, a demonstration from an expert Egyptian belly dancer and a beautiful African song sung by the Samakee Glee Club.  The Samakee Hall was transformed to create an international food hall and children, parents and teachers were able to enjoy a variety of delicious foods from around the world. The children thoroughly enjoyed their action-packed morning, they learnt many new things about the world around them and their behaviour was exemplary!

We sincerely thank all volunteers for organising such a splendid variety of experiences for us all to enjoy. More photos of the event can be found on Firefly, International Day.

Songkran Holiday

For many years, Samakee has celebrated Splash Day on the last Friday before breaking up for the Songkran Holiday. However, this year, following discussions with the children during Earth Week, we decided to postpone Splash Day for the time being.

Our school community made this decision, children and staff because Thailand is experiencing the worst drought in more than a decade and we are all concerned by the Thai farmers increasingly desperate need for water to irrigate their fields.

During Earth Week discussions, teachers were impressed by the children’s mature response to the plight of farmers in Thailand and collaboratively, it was agreed that Splash Day 2016 would be organised when the situation in Thailand has improved.

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Songkran Holiday and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday 18th April when school resumes!
