Welcome to First & Middle School Book Week. Each year at Samakee, we spend a week celebrating books, book characters, authors and illustrators. From comics to mysteries, from magic to history, you can find just about anything between the pages of a book and we want to make sure that all the children at Samakee grow up with a passion for books! This week, classroom teachers and specialist teachers will be developing book related activities, offering competitions and telling stories to highlight the importance of reading.
On Friday 4th March, the day will begin with a ‘Book Week Parade’. For this fun and very popular event, all our boys, girls and teachers are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. Costume ideas for Book Week can be as simple as collecting a few things from around the house and gathering together a few art and craft supplies. Browse your bookshelves for ideas or better still, come and visit our Samakee library for inspiration! More information related to Book Week activities is available on Firefly.
Meanwhile, we wish Year 6-8 an enjoyable Residential in the north of Thailand, parents are invited to visit Firefly > Extra Curricular Activities > School Trip and Residential Blog for regular updates of the children’s experiences. Thank you.
Thank you to all the families that responded to our Firefly Survey. Responses have been good and approximately 62%of our community have signed up successfully to receive crucial updates from school. This week we will contact all parents who have not responded to offer further assistance.
Our second Firefly Parent Workshop took place last Wednesday and was well attended, thank you to all parents who participated. There will be more opportunities for Firefly Guidance during our March Parent Consultations. Drop in sessions will be available during Consultations and led by our It team, more details and the venue for this support will be confirmed soon.
Staff Matters – Recruitment
Next academic year once again SAS will expand, with students in Years 9 for the first time, in addition to two-form entry in Year 3. Senior Management at St. Andrews Samakee are keen to ensure that we maintain an exceptional quality of teaching and support staff, and we are committed to attracting the highest quality of applicants. As a result, more teachers will join our growing staff in August. With this in mind, I will travel to London next week to take part in intensive recruitment interviews with Samakee’s Director Graham Sullivan. Together, we continue to build an outstanding educational experience for children attending Samakee.
Important Update re ID Cards
Please note that starting next week Monday 7th March, children must carry their SAS ID Cards for all trips off campus. The school office will no longer provide name labels. SAS lanyards and or replacement cards are available in the School Shop. Thank you for your support in this important matter of security.
