Red Nose Day at Samakee!
Wow! That was fun!
The morning started with the sale of the traditional red noses by Columbus House reps before a riotous assembly with the theme of ‘Samakee Circus’. The show featured two great happy face songs, acrobats, tight-rope walkers, an amazing cartwheeler, balloon sculpture and a visiting clown, topped off with the traditional custard pie victim (thank you, Mr Sethi). The enthusiastic audience played their part in getting the day off to a great start.
Break time saw some brave, sacrificial teachers soaked by buckets of water for which the students were eagerly queuing up; many paying extra to come back again..and again…and again!
Those who wished for a more filling option bought some of the delicious funny face cakes and biscuits on sale – many, many thanks to the parents and children from Columbus House (and elsewhere) who provided them.
It was a day to remember and it is a pity it only happens every two years!
The final total collected was Baht 40,000 and this will be donated to Operation Smile, Thailand to help fund operations for children with cleft-palate and other facial deformities.
I would like to express my huge appreciation to the children, staff (especially the performers and water soaks) and parents for making this a memorable Community Action occasion.
The last Community Action event of the school year is Busking Day on Friday, June 5th, organised with the help of Shakespeare House; more on that nearer the time.
