We promise: Independent, confident, lifelong learners
What is Book Week?
Each year at Samakee, we spend a week celebrating books, book characters, authors and illustrators. From comics to mysteries, from magic to history… you can find just about anything between the pages of a book and we want to make sure that all the children at Samakee grow up with a passion for books!
During the week, classroom teachers and specialist teachers will be developing book related activities, offering competitions and telling stories to highlight the importance of reading. Published children’s author, Janice Santikarn will visit for a day and run workshops for the children across the school. She will work with the children on improving their writing skills as well as performing some interactive story telling for our younger children. We are looking forward to a very entertaining and exciting day!
Book Week this year will begin on Monday 10th March and end on Friday 14th March with a ‘Book Week Parade’. For this fun and very popular event, all our boys, girls and teachers are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. Please do not stress, costume ideas for Book Week can be as simple as collecting a few things from around the house and gathering together a few art and craft supplies. Browse your bookshelves for ideas or better still, come and visit our Samakee library for inspiration!
There will be children’s bookshops at school throughout the week so please be sure to stop by, do some shopping and extend your child’s library!
