We promise: Independent, confident, lifelong learners
World Book Week, 22nd – 25th April
At Samakee we know that reading opens up new worlds and enriches our children’s lives, it is a vital skill that we believe must be encouraged and nurtured in all our children. With this objective clearly in mind, our teachers plan as many activities as possible throughout the school year to make reading a pleasurable activity and a source of enjoyable stories, absorbing characters, intriguing settings and informative factual information. Overtime, with regular exposure to books and with good support from home, our children have become very enthusiastic readers and love listening to stories. The standard of reading in our school continues to rise and we have an ever-increasing number of children reading above the expected level for their age – well done to you all!
World Book Week has once again been an excellent opportunity to have a focused week, which involves our children and community in a variety of creative experiences that promote a love of books. The more children read, the better they become at reading so this week the children have read to themselves, read to each other as ‘buddy readers’, read to their teachers and to members of their family. Our talented teachers have also been busy reading stories and have read to the children in their own classes and in other classes. A range of props has been used to engage and captivate the interest of our young listeners and interesting book nooks have been set up around the school. Children, teachers and parents have spent time browsing in two bookshops set up at school and have taken responsibility for a successful Book Swap and Book Sale.
I would sincerely like to thank everyone who participated in this enjoyable event and contributed towards the activities organized to celebrate books and to encourage everyone to read. The winners of the Book Character Competition can be viewed on Edmodo and please follow our school blog to find out the winners of the ‘Exotic Reading Competition’ and the ‘Book in a box Competition’.
