Dear Samakee Community,
As we approach two important events in the school calendar, we do hope that you will be able to attend. Your participation is crucial for the success of these events:
An Orientation / Welcome Evening for Parents is scheduled for next Thursday, August 29th. It will commence at 5:30 pm in the hall with refreshments and conclude at around 7:30 pm. Following refreshments and mingling, parents and teachers will adjourn to classrooms to chat and discuss the upcoming academic year. Just so you know, the Inclusion Centre will be open, and there is an opportunity to visit the unit and meet with Najwa Bowman and the team.
We eagerly anticipate a delightful social evening and hope you can join us.
The Samakee After School Club Fair for parents and children will be held in the hall on Monday, 2nd September, starting after school. We invite you and your child to drop by and personally explore the clubs/ECAs being offered this term. The club fair is an excellent opportunity to engage in conversations with the club leaders, gather more information, and plan your child’s choices for this term!
Attendance At School
At St. Andrews Samakee, we believe excellent attendance is of utmost importance, and we actively encourage consistently high levels of attendance and punctuality within our school community.
We understand that inadequate attendance can significantly impact a child’s academic performance. Did you know that lateness has a huge impact? For example, if your child is late by 10 minutes every day over the school year, that’s equal to over five days of lost learning!
Please find out more about our school’s attendance policy on our school website. Thank you.

End of School Day Routines
We love seeing our students enjoy time with their friends and play games after the school day ends. However, once you collect your child from their teacher or the hall at dismissal time, we kindly ask that you supervise their play while on the school grounds. Our teachers have other commitments after school and are not available to provide supervision during this time.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and happy environment for all our children. Thank you for your understanding and support!
Teaching and Learning Highlights!
KS1 – Butterfly Lifecycle
KS1 are busy learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. The interactive nature of looking after real caterpillars makes learning more engaging and memorable for them. They are enjoying learning and using scientific terms like “metamorphosis” and “chrysalis.” Observing the changes to the caterpillars stimulates curiosity and encourages students to ask questions and seek answers. Counting caterpillars, measuring their growth, and recording data introduces basic math skills. Caring for another living creature also helps develop empathy and compassion. The caterpillars have turned into chrysalises and we are excited for the butterflies to hatch out very soon.
Middle School – Exploring Samakee’s “I” Words!
Our Middle School explorers dove into the essence of what it means to be inquisitive, international, intrepid, innovative, imaginative, individual, and inspired! Through engaging challenges, the children not only learned the meaning of each of these powerful words but also embodied them in their activities. From creative problem-solving to fearless exploration, they embraced the values that will guide them to be curious thinkers, global citizens, and confident individuals.
Upper School –Theme of the Week -Fearless
This week, Upper School students have been attempting to be more fearless and take positive risks in their lives. Taking risks promotes a growth mindset, and has hopefully helped to encourage our students to be more adventurous and try new things. Here are some examples of positive risks that we encouraged students to take:
- Raising your hand first to answer a question in class
- Trying to do something new even if it is unfamiliar – such as doing origami or creating art
- Standing up for yourself in front of others
- Volunteering to do a play or take part in an extracurricular activity, even though it might be scary
- Attempting a new sport or activity
- Trying to achieve something, even if it’s difficult
- Trying a food you have never tried before
Upper School – Getting to know each other
Learning about and getting to know your friends better is important for building strong relationships and mutual understanding. This allows us to support and encourage each other. In our upper school Thai class, we get to know our friends better through games where we have to find each other based on questions. Additionally, students introduce themselves in various ways through presentations in front of the class.
Awards and Achievements
Congratulations to our Upper School students whose achievements were celebrated in assembly this week. Fantastic achievements in the pool, on the the badminton court and in the Ocean during their holiday and weekend time.
