Who We AreSamakee Teachers
I am very proud to have been the headteacher at St Andrews International School Samakee since our opening in 2000 and delighted that Samakee is recognised for the wonderful standard of inclusive education we provide.
Samakee has been awarded gold accreditation status during three consecutive inspections, 2012, 2015, and the last in May 2018. OUTSTANDING in all areas awarded by EDT and BSO is a fantastic achievement and could not have been accomplished without our school community’s strong support and commitment.
In my 40 plus years in teaching, I have worked as a headteacher at four different schools and was head of Bangkok Patana’s Early Years Unit for many years and the founding head of the first St Andrews School in Thailand. After graduating from Brighton University in the U.K., I have specialised in early years education and, in particular, recognise the importance of play as a context for young children’s learning. I have also been a speaker and workshop presenter for the Thai Schools of Excellence Programme and involved in curriculum development and teacher training in Thai Schools.

First School Teachers
EYFS Phase Leader and Nursery Class Teacher
I was born in America and moved to Thailand when I was young. I have always wanted to be a teacher, helping my Mother in her class, preparing resources and playing with the children every holiday. When the time was right, I decided to pursue my dream and completed my teaching degree in the UK. I came back to Thailand and worked in the St Andrews Group of schools for a few years before returning to the UK to complete my Master’s Degree in Special Educational Needs. I worked as a special educational needs teacher, supporting children individually both in class and in one-to-one sessions for a couple of years before moving to St Andrews Samakee.
I believe that children have a desire to learn with a natural curiosity and that as practitioners, we need to provide opportunities for our children to discover the wonders around them; the opportunity to explore, experiment, solve problems and find out more about themselves, other people and the world around them. I am so lucky to have a great team of people working with me to make Samakee the best it can be.
I graduated with a PGCE from the University of Hull, with a specialism in Early Years education. I have been teaching in Early years for 10 years, firstly for 5 years in London, UK and then for 5 years at St Andrews Samakee. I am very happy to be a part of the strong Early Years Team. At Samakee I am always challenged to look at new research, books and articles which constantly change how I approach my teaching practice. I am looking forward to another exciting year of teaching and learning at Samakee!
I graduated from Cambridge University with a Postgraduate Certificate of Education in 2009 and Completed my Master of Education also at Cambridge in 2012. I have over 9 years’ experience teaching in three London schools and recently moved to Thailand with my husband and three young children in September 2020. I am proud to be a part of the inspirational EYFS team at St Andrews Samakee where each child is nurtured as individuals and where learning is a meaningful and exciting experience.
Year 1 Class Teacher and Curriculum Leader
I arrived at Samakee in 2010, intending to stay for two years. However, Thailand, and this wonderful school, captured my heart and I am still here 11 years later. Having graduated with a BA in Teaching Studies from the University of Surrey, Roehampton and then taught in London for seven years prior to moving overseas, I joined the Samakee team as Year Three teacher and Primary Coordinator. Since then I have moved between Year Six and the Senior Leadership Team, and and am now enjoying class teaching in Year 1. During my time here, I have experienced the school achieving Gold ‘Outstanding’ Status in three consecutive accreditations and feel privileged to have been part of its growth and success.

I went on to complete my PGCE with Manchester Metropolitan University and gained my teaching qualifications in 2019. I have been teaching in Thailand and Samakee for 2 years, working in Key Stage 1. I have been fortunate to teach and develop as an educator at a school where child centred learning is one of the main values.
Key Stage 1 Phase Leader and Year 2 Class Teacher
I graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2014 after completing a 4 year Bachelor of Education degree. After teaching for 3 years in the city of Bristol, my passion for travel brought me to Thailand where I was offered the exciting opportunity to join Samakee! I have so far loved every minute and I feel very lucky to be part of providing the children in our care with a child centred, unique curriculum. I currently teach Year 2 but throughout my career, I have taught across both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Outside of school, I enjoy horse riding and photography, alongside travelling to new places and learning about new cultures.

This is my second year in Year 3 and I thoroughly enjoy bringing the curriculum to life in a safe, creative and purposeful environment.
In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, photography and playing sports. I’m really looking forward to developing as a teacher and providing the children in my class with a growth mindset and the skills they need to succeed in life.

In 2012, I graduated with a Psychology degree from Brunel University and then went on to complete my PGCE teaching qualification the year after. This is now my fifth year teaching in Thailand and across my teaching career, I have taught from ages five through to eleven. Supporting students to reach their full potential whilst promoting an engaging learning experience is something that I continue to value greatly. I always look forward to being involved in the range of unique experiences that students are involved in, from residentials to whole school events, as they are given the opportunity to shine outside of a classroom setting. It is great to be part of a community that is dedicated to the growth and development of the students within it.

Upper School Science
My name is Martyn Carthy and I am the specialist science teacher at St Andrews Samakee. I am originally from Liverpool in the United Kingdom and have been teaching for eight years. I teach the core sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) in the Upper School at Samakee. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in the Biological Sciences (from the University of Wales at Bangor) and a Masters Degree in Education, gaining Qualified Teacher Status from the University of Buckingham.
I was recruited from the UK and joined St Andrews after teaching near Kings Lynn, Norfolk, but also have international experience including several successful years teaching IBDP Biology at an international school in Bangkok. My mission is to create young scientists, who appreciate how the scientific method is used to evaluate objective truth, and why evidence-based science is important in our daily lives. Science literacy is the artery through which the solutions to tomorrow’s problems flow.
I graduated from Birmingham City University with a Business Studies degree in 1997 and completed my teaching qualifications at Kingston University in 1999. I have been teaching in Thailand for 5 years and I have worked in international schools for the last 20 years. I have been fortunate enough to work with students aged 10 -18 across a range of subjects; Information Technology, Computer Science and Geography. I am very happy to be bringing alive the subjects of Computer Science and Geography to our secondary students. I feel it is very important that students have a digital toolkit that they are able to use effectively in the future. I would aim to see the students grow and mature into socially and ethically responsible young adults who wish to question and learn at the same time.
Makerspace and Designlab
I graduated from the University of Ghent with a degree in Early Childhood Development and Education and continued my Masters in Special Educational Needs at the Artevelde University in Belgium. I have been teaching in Thailand for over ten years and have worked with students from Early Years up to Secondary across a range of diverse subjects. Having an interest in technology and various STEM fields, I have since pursued a number of subject-specific qualifications and have presented at Edtech, Google, Apple and Microsoft events. I am thrilled about the opportunity to bring these experiences into the classroom and promote an excitement for STEM to our students in our very own Makerspace and Designlab where I work with all students at our school. Over the years I’ve worked here, I have seen many of our children develop and grow, and it continues to give me great joy to be a small part of their journey.
I graduated from the Dagestan State University of Pedagogical study in Russia, with a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood and as a Music specialist. I have been living in Thailand since 2002 and have been teaching at St. Andrews Samakee from 2008. Throughout my teaching journey, I have been fortunate enough to share my passion for music with children of all ages. I love being part of the teaching team at Samakee, where children are happy and free to artistically express themselves in a safe and caring environment.
I graduated from Bath Spa University with a degree in Commercial Music and subsequently went on to complete my teaching qualifications there. Over my eleven years of teaching, I have taught across a wide spectrum of settings, from high performing state schools to small centres for disengaged youth. In addition, I worked on the extended leadership team at a large secondary school as a pastoral lead. These experiences have taught me the uniqueness that children possess and an appreciation for personalised learning. My specialism is in Music Technology, and I have been fortunate to teach this alongside other subjects including Drama, Design Technology and English. I have loved getting to know the flavour of Samakee since joining in 2019 and am excited about seeing how the school will continue to develop.
