1st December 2023

Dear Samakee Community,

We are thrilled to share a few exciting highlights from a highly successful and bustling week of events here at Samakee as we welcomed exchange students from Hong Kong to join the fun!

Monday – Loy Krathong Assembly

Kicking off the week, the Loy Krathong Assembly brought together Middle School students for a delightful celebration of the Thai Festival of Lights, Loy Krathong, with a colourful assembly involving music and dance presented by Year 1 – 4 students with a special appearance by US students playing their recorders making it a memorable start to our event-filled week.

Tuesday – Spanish Day

Continuing the momentum, a Peruvian adventure drew together the whole school and visiting guests, who engaged in various activities throughout the day. The day’s success was evident in our students’ smiles, engagement and enthusiastic dancing in the garden at the end of the day.

Wednesday & Thursday – Upper School Production

The grand finale of our week was the US production, Beauty Is A Beast, which exceeded expectations and was thoroughly enjoyed by the children staff and families!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and contributed to making this week extraordinary. Your enthusiasm and support are the driving forces behind the success of our school events, and we look forward to many more memorable moments together.

Stay tuned for more exciting events in the last two weeks of term, and once again, thank you for making this week a resounding success!

Upper School Production 2023

On Thursday night, the Upper School production, Beauty Is A Beast, was a fantastic success! The cast were brilliant and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the play. The students have worked so hard on this project, and it was great to see them presenting such an entertaining spectacle on stage. A big thank you also goes out to Upper School staff for all their help behind the scenes. It took a real team effort to guarantee that this event was so successful. Great job everyone!

Book Donation

We want to express our sincere gratitude to the Wright Family for their generous donation of books to our school library. Their donation will undoubtedly contribute to our students’ growth and enjoyment of reading; thank you for your kind and generous gesture. We are truly grateful for your support.

Teaching and Learning Highlights!

Fostering Empathy and Unity at Samakee!

At Samakee, we’re more than just a school; we’re a close-knit community that believes in nurturing caring and empathetic individuals.

Within our loving and supportive environment, children learn the importance of compassion and kindness. They grow as responsible and considerate members of our school family, making a positive impact on the world around them.

All staff and children work together to ensure everyone feels safe and happy through the values of empathy, unity, and a strong sense of community.

Loy Krathong at Samakee

For Loy Krathong at Samakee this year! We held an assembly highlighting Thai traditions associated with the festival. Each year group participated in showcasing different aspects:

Year 1 showcased Thai Dancing, Year 2 presented Traditional Thai Plays, Year 3 delved into the meaning of Loy Krathong, and Year 4 played the Thai instruments “Angklung” and the recorder. The children had the opportunity to create their own Krathongs using natural materials and floated them in a big bucket to ensure they could float properly. Everyone had a lot of fun!

Spanish Day – Reliving the magic of our Peruvian adventure!

Tuesday was an absolute blast, the kids had a fabulous time immersing themselves in the rich culture of Peru! Here’s a flashback to the joy-filled activities that made it an unforgettable day:

  • Little dance stars grooving to the beats of Reggaeton!
  • Imaginations soaring high as they got creative designing their own Nazca lines!
  • Burst of creativity and tradition while painting Toritos de Pucará in collaboration with @Peruinthailand!
  • Young explorers diving into the fascinating history of the Incas and Machu Picchu – time-traveling with wide-eyed wonder!
  • Amazement in their eyes as they discovered the incredible Amazon rainforest and its diverse inhabitants!
  • Melodies transporting them to a world of joy with soulful beats of Peruvian music – Smiles all around as they crafted their own Zampoñas (pan pipes) – embracing the musical spirit of the Andes!
  • And let’s not forget the sweet delight as they tried dulce de leche!

What a day filled with laughter, exploration, and heartwarming moments!

Year 8 – Drag Investigation

Our students recently conducted an investigation into the principles of drag and streamlining. After a discussion about what Drag is, the students compared the transit time for a variety of shapes though a viscous medium. After identifying which shapes were able to move through a thick paste quickly, the students were able to identify which shapes had the most effective streamlining.

Upper School – Collaboration in Maths

In maths at Samakee, we don’t just read the formula out of a textbook… we work together to discover it ourselves! Collaborative learning in maths means students share their ideas and everyone grows together as a team.

We understand that each unique individual has their own perspective and we love to share ours to solve challenging problems. It even makes remembering and applying tough formulae more fun!
