15th September 2023

Dear Samakee Community,

We want to express our gratitude to all those who participated in our Club Fair last week, including children, parents, and staff. It was a tremendous success, with a strong turnout for various activities, especially in the realm of sports. It is truly heartening to observe such enthusiastic engagement this week. The children have arrived well-prepared for their activities, and the transitions from classes to clubs have been incredibly smooth and effortless. Well done everyone.

SAS_Parent Teacher Group Suggestions

We understand that each parent brings valuable perspectives and ideas that can greatly enhance the ongoing development of our school, and we are eager to collaborate with you. As a result, we extend an invitation for you to share your insights, thoughts, and suggestions regarding the future of St. Andrews Samakee. To streamline this process, we have created a Google Form (link provided above) and eagerly await your input. Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that our next PTG Coffee Morning is scheduled for Thursday, October 5th, at 8:00 am. We look forward to your participation and engagement.

THE NIGHTINGALE HOUSE EVENT

All dressed in their different House shirts, Y1-Y9 got ready to compete in the first House event of the academic year, Minute to Win it. The students rotated through 12 different activities ranging from a Trivia Quiz, to an Egg and Spoon Relay, to beating a teacher at an arm wrestle and many more. Some activities were individual and some required Teamwork. The students gained House Points from completing activities, but also from showing good SMKE values whilst participating. The kids had a fantastic time and it was great to see them so inspired and intrepid when taking part.

The next house event will be led by Einstein House and will take place on Thursday 12th October.

Swim Gala

Well done swimmers for a fantastic first Samakee Swimming Gala. Students competed in all strokes over different distances demonstrating amazing progress from last year and faster times. There were some outstanding individual swims and entertaining house team relay events which were well supported by encouraging parents – thank you. Individual and House results will be announced next week!

Samakee Accreditation Reports

As you may already be aware, we have recently undergone the reaccreditation processes with both EDT and BSO. I am pleased to share that the official reports stemming from these evaluations have been received and are now accessible on our school’s website – see links below.

Teaching and Learning Highlights!

THE INCLUSION UNIT

Every day our classroom is filled with moments of growth, connection, and joy; our daily morning circle time is precious. As we gather together, our students kickstart their day by greeting each other with smiles and warmth. They share their feelings, building a strong sense of community and empathy. We dive into the day of the week, exploring the calendar and discovering the date. Learning becomes an adventure as we engage with these concepts in a fun and interactive way. We also kick off our morning with an energising workout to get those happy endorphins flowing, and we wrap it all up with a dance that fills the room with laughter and pure delight! In the Inclusion Unit, every morning is a fresh opportunity to learn, grow, and connect. We’re excited to share these special moments with you as we continue our journey together. More heartwarming stories and experiences await, so stay connected with us for all the beautiful things to come.

UPPER SCHOOL PRO BOTS

In the captivating realm of Computer Science, the dynamic minds of our Year 7 and 8 students are currently embarking on a transformative journey, honing their computational thinking prowess through a process of meticulous planning, ingenious testing, and artful refinement of their own algorithms. Today, this educational odyssey unfurled as a breathtaking spectacle reminiscent  “Fast and Furious,” where our brilliant students engaged in exhilarating races along ever-more intricate tracks. A thrilling fusion of intellect and velocity, igniting sparks of brilliance on the course of knowledge.

WELCOME ALUMNI!

In Upper School, we were very lucky to be visited by one of our former Samakee students, Jan. She is currently studying Creative Writing and English at the University of Hull, in the UK. Jan joined our English classes for a day and was able to help our Upper School students with their creative writing pieces. Jan hopes to become a fully qualified teacher in the future. Thanks for your help Jan!

YEAR 8 ART

Over the past fortnight, our Year 8 students immersed themselves in the world of art, tapping into their boundless creativity to seamlessly blend the beauty of the outdoors with their indoor canvas. With zeal, they embarked on a journey of printmaking, skillfully transferring the intricate details of leaves and blossoms onto an eclectic array of backgrounds such as newspaper, acetate, and creatively crafted collages. The awe-inspiring results, visible instantaneously, left our students spellbound, showcasing the remarkable synergy between nature and artistic expression.
