Dear Samakee Community,

Another busy week has flown by and on Saturday 27th our Senior Management Team will be taking part in the Bangkok Education Fair at the Intercontinental Hotel, 9:00 – 5:00 pm. This will be an opportunity to showcase our school, connect with local families and give visitors a clear picture of the educational opportunities our school provides. If you are in the neighbourhood, please pop by and say hello!

There has been a tremendous response from you to our two Open Mornings’ invitation on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd April, from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Preparations are well in hand, and we are looking forward to welcoming you to this annual event.

On April 2nd we will celebrate Nightingale House – Colour Run and this charity event will replace the planned Mufti Day ‘Wonderful Water day’. See full details in the letter and Google Form from Nightingale House. We hope that you will support the children as they run through an array of safe colourful powder for their chosen charity.

STATES OF MATTER

Scientists in Year 4 have been exploring different states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. From making explosions with vinegar and baking soda to observing solids changing into liquids, the children have been busy with some exciting experiments!

HOMETIME – SAFETY & SECURITY

As part of our ongoing effort to improve safety and security at Samakee, we regularly review procedures for parent pick up of children at the end of the school day. We have recently identified a problem as some drivers/parents are jumping the queue and not following the route through the car park as directed by staff. Please help us to make this daily routine as safe and efficient as possible and follow staff directions.

HOW CAN YOU HELP

Do watch the SAS Guidance Video and follow the route through the car park as directed by staff. Thank you for your support.

UPPER SCHOOL ART

In Year 9 they have been learning all about street and urban art. They have been studying different street artists and have created stencils and experimented with spray paints. Year 9 are now beginning to explore patterns and layering before making their own stencil inspired by Shepherd Fairey.

Year 8 and 7 have been exploring all things food in Art! They have studied Wayne Thiebaud and Joel Penkman to inspire their own food paintings that will be used as designs for their food sculptures.

LIBRARY TIME

At Samakee, we want to make sure that everyone loves to read, and children are encouraged to read with their teachers and to access books daily from class libraries or our school library.

As we gradually relax some Covid restrictions, we reopened the Library for the children for the first time this week. The children were delighted!  They quickly found their favourite stories or new ones and settled down to read!

I hope that you have a pleasant weekend.

Kind regards,

Monica L Sudhirak

Head of School
